Demasoni Disaster

12 11 2009

Pseudotropheus demasoni are very popular with aquarists. Both males and females show great colour from a very early age and they stay small, making them suitable for smaller aquariums that most Mbuna. Unfortunately they are also a  famously vicious little fish.

Standard advice when keeping demasoni is to have a group of at least 12 in order to spread the agression out over more fish.  I started out with a colony of 20 and they seemed happy enough to begin with. Over the last 2 months however they have become mature and started breeding – cue violence. I’m now down to just 7 fish! Lets hope the group stabilises there….
